Dentist Edmond: Revealing Natural Cleansers For Teeth

In part one of this series (May 3rd’s post) our dentist in Edmond shared a list of 3 food types that research shows can actually benefit teeth and keep them clean. The types of foods we mentioned included whole grains, animal protein, and seeds. There are several more ways to go about maintaining a healthy mouth and many more foods that can be added to your diet to result in healthier teeth and gums. Today, we’ll be going over a few more of these types of foods.

Here is a list of 3 food types that our dentist in Edmond gathered from nutritional resources to share with you:

1.) Dairy Products: Milk, yogurt, and cheese contain calcium which is a main component for healthy teeth and bones. Cheese also contains cavity-fighting agents like phosphate to help balance the pH levels in the mouth while preserving tooth enamel. The calcium and phosphate work together to produce saliva and kill off bacteria in the mouth and teeth.

2.) Fruits And Vegetables: Crisp fruits (like apples) and raw, crunchy vegetables (like carrots and celery) can help remove plaque from teeth and even freshen the breath. Vitamin A, found in pumpkins, carrots, sweet potatoes and broccoli, is also necessary for the formation of tooth enamel. Fruits that contain Vitamin C are great for holding cells together, preventing the breakdown of gums.

3.) Fresh Herbs: Studies show that fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, and mint can help clean teeth and decrease odors caused by a buildup of bacteria. Chewing on the fresh herbs is considered best; however, dried herbs can be used in mouth rinses for a more subtle impact.

Our dentist in Edmond hopes that this information has been helpful to you, but we do want to point out that brushing and flossing regularly are also highly important to maintaining dental health.

Our dentist in Edmond would also like to point out that teeth cleanings and routine dental check-ups are a great way to ensure you keep a bright smile. If you’re looking to make an appointment with our dentist in Edmond to help maintain your beautiful smile, please give us a call at 405-330-5458.
